FAQ on Automatic Pool Covers
General Questions
Yes, but we recommend only walking on your cover in emergency situations or to clean the surface of the cover. All of the automatic pool cover brands that we offer are ASTM F1346-91 certified and can hold a minimum of 485 lbs. (The estimated weight to support two adults to rescue a child that had accidentally fallen onto the cover.) An automatic pool cover is not meant to be jumped on or played on – excessive weight or strain on the cover can damage it over time.
Yes – Our automatic pool cover systems are the most reliable systems on the market. However, just like your car, your automatic cover will run well for years to come if it is regularly maintained. Simply keeping your pool cover free of excess water, dirt, and debris that can collect in the auto cover housing can help to reduce the amount of maintenance needed.
Just like brake pads on your car, pulleys and sliders will wear over time. Occasionally changing these parts will help you prevent problems. Coversafe offers a variety of annual maintenance plans and can assist with selecting an appropriate service plan.

For New / Existing Automatic Pool Cover Owners
Yes, this is normal! Automatic pool covers are installed with some extra fabric material, making them appear slightly loose on the pool. This is to help the fabric withstand any weight added to the surface of the cover. If the cover was pulled completely taut, it would not be able to withstand the weight necessary to properly protect your pool.

- Do not cover your pool! It may seem like the right thing to do, but covering your pool during a major storm can actually be a very costly mistake. Your automatic pool cover fabric can be damaged by falling branches, trees, debris, or strong winds could tear the cover from the system.
- Clear the area. Clear your pool area of any chairs, tables, or other loose items. Wind speeds over 50 – 60 mph are considered dangerous, but even 30 – 40 mph winds can blow down patio umbrellas or small trees. Bring everything that you can indoors during a major storm, or make sure the item is securely tied down.
- Turn off all power sources in the pool area. Leaving electricity, propane, gas, or other power sources on could be potentially dangerous if struck by lightning, flooded, or damaged by falling debris.
- After the storm, clean up any debris in the pool and around the pool area. Check the automatic pool cover system box for debris or visible damage too – if the storm was severe you may want to consider a basic maintenance visit so that a Coversafe technician is able to report back on the overall condition of your system.
